Speed limits?

As the speed limit on most roads is maximum 100 km/h, why do the automakers give the ability to go faster than that?

Answers:

too many tires........help me get rid of them please?

Because not all countries speed limits are the same, it would cost manufacturers too much money to place different limiters on cars going to different countries.

Sometimes it's actually safer to accelerate away or around an accident than to brake, so if you were travelling at 100km/h and an accident ocurred that it would be safer to accelerate away from, if the car was limited to 100km/h you would be put in danger.

Why don't sedans have rear windshield wipers?

There are roads where there aren't any speed limits ... Germany's Autobahn, for example. There are also countries where there aren't any speed limits in rural areas. You also need the ability to accelerate, no matter what speed you are driving, for defensive maneuvering and passing. If you found yourself in a situation where you may be involved in an accident without the ability to accelerate and move out of harm's way, you'd be screwed. Better to have the additional power, when you want or need it, than to not have it at all!
