Any carseat technicians or others experienced with carseats?

Question:
We have a 2000 Mazda MPV and two children. My 6-yr-old DD (53 lbs and 49" tall) is in a Graco Turbobooster (using it with the highback) and my 3 1/2-yr-old DS (34 lbs. and 41" tall) is in a Graco CarGo using the 5-pt harness. We never installed tether anchors in the van (I know, I know... bad us!) so I'm thinking of having the dealer install it now for my DS's seat. Also, I saw that the Britax Regent is to be used with children up to 53" tall so would it be a waste to purchase one for my DD when she's 4" away from the limit? Or should I go ahead and leave her in the booster and get a Regent for my DS since he has to get a new 5-pt soon anyway (the CarGo says to stop using 5-pt harness when child reaches 40 lbs and the shoulders are above the upper harness slots...but he is is nowhere near either yet anytime soon)?

Why do Motorcyclists risk injury or death by Lane Splitting?

I would first check the date on the back of both. they have an expiry date as to when they can no longer be used. I would buy a cheap booster seat with no back for the 6 yr old and if that booster seat isn't expired which the 3 1/2 yr old to that one. by the time the 6 yr old is out of the booster seat you can give it to the younger one. I use booster seats with no backs for my 6 yr olds and they do just a good of a job as the more expensive ones!

I need help on taking the back seat out of a 2-dr 2001 Grand AM?

Well if you plan on having more kids then get them installed if you also plan on keeping your car for a long time.

Why aren't car seats (as well as crash testing on cars and trucks) done at highway speeds?

What dealer? The car seat dealer or your New Car dealer. An Auto Upholstery shop, reputable one, can do and more than likely does that for the New Car Dealer. Ever seen a sewing machine at a new car dealers repair shop?
Alot of folks never think about that stuff, and alot of the customers I have dealt with never knew an Upholstery Shop even existed.
They take the car into the Dealer for a seat repair, or added Install Points for an After Market Seat, (that's an infant seat or a custom seat) and the dealer brings it to us, we do the work, they take it back and the customer never knows it left the dealers lot.
I care about my kids, so I find out these things. I ask questions, alot of questions before I allow any work to be done.
You see, you might be better off talking with the person that is going to actually do the install or retro-fit. For one, they know the answers to the questions, because they are the ones actually doing the work.
We do Aircraft Seats and Cushions also, we are FAA certified to do that, you have to be. But I betcha a dime to a dollar that there are few Pilots that know this.
I have seen that kinda seat in SUVs,Minivans, they are good seats. And yes, follow the Manufacturers Guidelines on whatever, they have been tested to perform a function, the function is less injury.
There is a list of Local PD/FD on the CarGo site where you can go to get a saftey inspection, alot are by appointment, but it's worth it.
