Because when the ATM machine was built at the factory they had no way of knowing if it would be installed at a drive-up or walk-up location. That said, you could have a blind passenger in the back seat who would access it from within the vehicle.the same reason you can get braille menus at the drive up window at McDonald's

Those braille letters are there for the blind drivers who continue to drive. This way they can at least get their money to buy gas to do even more dangerous driving.
There is also braille lettering at the gas pumps, and have you ever noticed them on the signs by elevators? Now someone who has to read in braille is NOT going to know where the stairs are... Who comes up with these stupid ideas anyway??

All of the panels are made with the Braille lettering; they don't make special panels just for the ones that are installed at the drive up ATM's. It would not be economical. There are more walk ups than driveups so the Braille is just standard.I am 35 year old I need to learn to drive ??
Only in America.Who knows, there's probably some way for blind people to feel the braille while there is another sighted driver. Again, who knows?

They only make one kind of buttons for ATMs. It would not be cost effective make diffent ones for drive up ATMs. Apparently nonUS ATM manufactuers lack this knowledge.Why are cars made to go 70mph over the speed limit?
