Lowering car speedometers poll?

Question:
i was just thinking, do you agree or disagree that car companies should start making car speedometers lower say maybe up to 100mph the fastest because really, where in the world is it legal to even drive that fast or even faster? what's the point in having cars go up to around 200mph? why do people buy cars & brag about how fast it can go? when & where are you going to be able to actually drive that fast. lowering it would prevent people from speeding way way over the limits like in car chases running from police and such. what are your thoughts?

Car companies already limit car speeds according to the maximum speed that the OEM tires are rated at for that vehicle. Even sports cars like the Corvette and Ford GT limit the speed based on tires.

Has nothing to do with the speedo. It's just easier to make the speedo jive with the tires so that folks don't get to crazy.

Does it fall up under the lemon law if purchased as-is?

As an example, you can't buy a Chevy pickup that will go faster than 91 mph because the tires are only rated to that speed. However, if you put tires rated for a higher speed and then change the computer, you can safely go much faster.

Why are people in such a damn hurry to get from point a to point b when driving?

The problem is that there is going to be some one like me who will figure out a way to make it go faster,it's not about speed it's about take off, unfortunately the only way to do that is more power and with that comes a higher top speed, Though I do agree with you that there is no need to go over 100mph but soon it wont matter, the way the car company's are now there wont be any new cars going anywhere if are economy dose not rebound soon.

crew cab trucks and baby riding in back?

eventhough you see cars that have speedometers of up to 140 or 160, most of the new cars nowadays actually have a speed limiter, if you havent notice. like my ford focus; it can potentially go up to 140mph, but the speed is limited to only 105 (I test-drove it on the freeway during times of light traffic).
