Why does it get foggy inside the car when its raining outside?

Question:
When its raining outside, the car windshield get foggy and it clears only if ac is switched on. It doesnt get clear if the heater is switched on. Why?

It's to do with condensation. When you breathe in the car your breath is hotter (and has moisture in it) than the outside of the car making condensation on the windscreen. When you turn on the ac it clears it as there is no moisture in the ac system as opposed to the heater which draws in moisture from the outside.

The moister level and temperature inside and outside of the car is different. Condensation occurs because of this. The same reaction as a glass of cold liquid picking up moister in tha air.

It clears when the A/C or defog is turned on because A/C dries the air. (DE-humidifies) the A/C compressor is running whenever the "defog" is selected.

have an older car (1994 grand am) i don't think it has child locks is there anything i could buy to lock it

Maybe you have noticed that your nose gets dry when the A/C is running, because of the drying effect.
