If large trucks were kept off the freeways during the day, traffic would be much lighter and we would be much safer. Keeping Cal Trans from working on the roads during the day would go a long way in avoiding traffic jams, road blocks, traffic tie-ups, and closures. Why hasn't our government thought about that?

The answer, quiet frankly, is that to the government (and most intellectuals) the disruption to commuters is far more acceptable than the disruption of commerce.Is "share the road" a suggestion or is it actually a law?
Think about it. Look around you right now, 99.9% of every manufactured thing you can see has been on a truck at some time. The economy of any country is dependent on the infrastructure that delivers goods (food, medical supplies, clothing, energy, chemicals used in production, fuel, construction materials, you name it) all of this is dependent on trucks. Losing have of the day before commerce could begin again would destroy the infrastructure since there is no way that a trucking industry, struggling to keep up with 24/7 operations, could do 24 plus hours of work in 12 hours.
As a long time truck driver I feel that most pedestrians (anyone other than a professional driver is my meaning) show far less respect to the trucks and truckers of the world than is deserved. The next time you are enjoying life, doing what ever it is in this world you like to do, be conscience of the fact that you more than likely would not be able to do it if a truck or two hadn't been involved in one way or another prior to you.

Trucking is a major function of commerce in our country, if they were to restrict heavy load vehicles during certain hours like that, it would be very detrimental to your economy. It is a nice idea, from a road safety view I guess, but not really feasible in our "WANT IT NOW" nation.How long will it take for the police to charge me driving without due care and attention?
why can't all cars acclerate quickly to speed up the flow of trafficbecause the fressness is needed sometime the faster the better eg your top eating out high prices item may be because it just is fresh no matter what time

I'd say that single commuter cars are much more of a problem than trucks.

And the poster above me is correct in that deliveries need to be made in a timely manner. Trucking companies spend millions of $ on logistics systems to get the most out the time their trucks are on the road. The ICC also regulates how many hours a trucker can drive before resting, so this is critical.

how would anything get delivered,shippers and recievers are mostly open thru the day.would you be happy with trucks going by your house all night long,probably not.there are already lots of towns that wont allow trucks on there streets after 11 pm
would you be willing to pay more for all your goods by restricting trucks to running half days,some trucks run two drivers to ge tthe products moved qiucker.
the other option would be having regular people work stagered hours( some do) or maybe you could work nights instead.
as for your comment about safer,you would still have all the boneheads driving there cars just like always,that wouldn't change.
just have the goverment fix the road system,they collect billions from trucks in road taxes and dont spend it to fix anything.

I truly believe this a very ignorrant question on your part. If you read statistics, then you would know there are more car accidents, than any other vehicle traveling on our highways. Also, due to this fact, this is the major cause of traffic jams, rubber necking, smog, and congestion, etc.... Before you make yourself sound ignorrant again, get your facts straight. And due to the Reim sleep cycle, this will not happen.Need we say anymore? If everyone would be Cautious Courteous And have Common Sense then we would not be having this conversation.
