You 'might' get away with different size tires on the front and rear, but both tires on the axle need to match, and all 4 tires really should match.

Those low profile space saver spare tires they give you fit that category too, only to get you to the tire shop, despite several of my customers (I run a tow service) insisting that "The dealer told me I could use it just like the regular tire at highway speed." as I'm hooking up because their temporary donut spare has failed them and they haven't got the real one fixed yet...
