Coping an attitude will only make them look for some reason to write you up.
Time is money, when stopped just have your DL and Registration and hand it over.. If they ask for your logbook hand it over. Dont volunteer information and don't start a p*ssing contest because that will only cost YOU a lot of time and usually money in the end.

Any law enforcement official can look at it.

why are my tires so loud when i drive straight and go quiet when I turn right?

ANY law enforcement officer can look at it, if you get a ticket and you feel it's bogus fight it in court not on the street

what we need in the new year?

Here's the real answer. Any Law Enforcement Officer can LOOK at it but, to recieve a citation on it, it has to be a L.E.O that is CVSA certified. Which COULD be a local officer. They should have a patch that say's CVSA.(Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.) on their uniform. And, not all State Police are CVSA certified. I do know all New York Troopers are ALL D.O.T cert.
If in doubt, ask if they are CVSA certified. If not, you win on a logbook citiation. 344 hours are required to be CVSA certified in class which covers all the D.O.T regulations. Only then he/she can write a safety violation.
