You pump the brakes off and on repeatedly. This allows you to have control with the steering while continuing to slow the car down to gain control and stop the spin. Do not pump the gas as this will accelerate the spin. If you have a front wheel drive vehicle and you start to slide, you can modulate the gas to get the car to turn. Hitting the brakes while a FWD car is sliding will cause the car to "snap" spin. At that point, all you can do is pucker those cheeks and hope you are the only one on the road. And by the way, it is spelled "BRAKES".

I would have to say that it is best if you are spinning, dont do anything. If you brake, this could change direction of the spin. If you press the gas this could do anything. If you are sliding, only press the gas if you are in a front wheel drive car. This will pull it back into the correct direction without over correcting. Hope this answers your question!!

No. It is best (if you are parked) to try to idle out of ice, or start off in second or third gear with very little gas. If you are driving on ice and start to slide, pump to brakes (w/o ABS) to regain steering control.
