Question:
My car is fitted with an LPG tank of 60 lit capacity which should effectively hold 48 liters. Recently when I filled up it took more than 55 lit and would have still taken more if I had not stopped it. BPCL, the vender of the gas has informed that it has happened because my valve is defective and that there are cases where it has filled up to 60 lit. As I understand it when it fills up to 48 lit the pressure in the tank and that in the filling system are equal and the supply is cut off. If defective valves allows overfilling it is very dangerous as there is no way of finding out the condition of the valve. There are so many vehicles on the road fitted with LPG tanks and if the valves are defective they are all potential BOMBS. IS THE EXPLANATION GIVEN BY THE VENDOR (bpcl) CORRECT?

On pressure tanks there are releases that at certain pressures will vent excess gas.LPG is A pressurized gas (I believe). so your tank should have this relief valve . When we fill LPG here there are trained people filling the tanks only - do you all ways fill you own tank?
