I have a classic car, which predates the law requiring seat belts. I do not wish to fit belts as it makes the car non original. I can legally drive it without belts, but cannot comply with the child seat law. It is very rare that I need to carry such a child so the option of getting a newer second car is not really on

Oldbeard's got it. Child over 3 okay unrestrained in the back seat. Child under three - no.You only have to use the restraints if they are fitted. Just like yourself, if there is no belt there how can you be made to wear it?
There's no point in using a booster cushion as there are intended to make an adult seatbelt fit them better.

If your car is classed as a classic car and by law you do have to have seat belts fitted , you cannot be prosecuted for carrying someone for not wearing a seat belt.More Questions & Answers ...
