Question:
A mate of mine was banned for drink and driving. But he has now given up booze and badly needs his licence back for work. But he has to take the "extended driving exam" before he can get it back, despite being a better and more experienced driver than I ever was. He has never driven dangerosuly nor incompetently in his life and can handle HGV and towing with ease which I certainly can't. But I still have to sit by him as "Instructor" while he practices to comply with the law even though he can teach me far more about "good" driving than I could ever teach him.. What advice can I give him to help him get through.
Can anybody experienced in this tell me, are the examiners likely to fail him for the slightest alleged mistake because he was disqualified or are they fair and unbiased in their judgements..
Answers:
What is the name of that device you put in your car that tells you when theres a cop around?
Yes the extended test is harder to pass. it is a minimum of 70 minutes and will include all the manoeuvres i.e. Parallel parking, Reverse around the corner, Turn in the road , emergency stop and will most likely finish with a reverse park into a parking bay. While on test the examiner is looking for a safe and controlled drive. as a hgv driver your friend will have a lot of experience but also some bad habits. be aware of speed, 30 mph is just that not 32,33 or any thing above the limit. Examiners are unbiased but they have to be sure that the standard is there to allow him to have his licence back. he is allowed a number of minor errors (15) but no serious or dangerous faults. I would advise your friend to phone an approved driving school and have an assessment drive just to tidy up the loose ends before he takes his test.Just to back up theanswer I am an approved driving instructor who also trains driving instructors .Any labs I can send Firestone Steeltex tires to have checked out?

"Retesting for disqualified drivers and riders was introduced on 6 January 1992. The purpose of retesting disqualified drivers is not meant as punishment, but is a road safety measure aimed at checking the driver's competence.

si there an ideal hight and width limit when constracting a structurally safe bridge?
convicted of dangerous driving offences
convicted of other offences involving obligatory disqualification
Loss of your driving licence for dangerous driving or related offences involving obligatory disqualification means that you return to 'learner' status - normal rules for provisional licence holders will then apply.
is my 15month old son allowed to sit in the front of the car in his car seat in the UK?
You must therefore take and pass a theory test for the category of vehicle you intend to take an extended practical driving test in.
The extended driving test is longer and therefore more demanding. It lasts for about 70 minutes and covers a wide variety of roads, usually including dual carriageways. You are advised to prepare by taking suitable instruction from an approved driving instructor (ADI)."
The examiner will be fair and unbaised, but your mate has longer to make mistakes in!
I think that he will need to do the theory test again and then the extended driving test.
just go for it the test >>>>if he pass then well done.
