I'm a truck driver and I get the impression that you think we are some kind of sleaze ball segment of society that needs monitoring. For your information I am an honest, productive member or society. I have raised two children and have four wonderful grandchildren. I pay my taxes just like any "regular" person does. I don't do drugs, don't smoke, don't drink, and I don't hang around truck stops looking for ladies of the night. I spend any where from 10-14 hours a day at my job. All done legally and with nothing to hide. I already have to maintain a daily log of my activities. I must take a physical every two years to make sure I am healthy enough to drive. I have to submit to random drug tests to insure I don't do drugs (I have never failed a test). And since I have a haz-mat endorsement on my driver's license I am also required to have a background investigation every few years. So just exactly what reason do you have to even suggest that I should also be monitored by some type of camera device? Exactly what kind of behavior do you...or any one else that seems to think our life in the cab should make for interesting TV viewing.expect to discover by this camera? It will make for boring television for sure. If watching a 58 year old man holding a steering wheel and checking his mirrors every few seconds and occasionally shifting gears is exciting to you then I feel sorry for you. There is no need for invasive cameras in a truck. As previously stated by another person in an accident involving a car and a big rig the car is at fault 76% of the time (NHTSA's own figures...that's the Feds for those that don't know). Just because I chose to drive a truck for a living does NOT make me some kind of outlaw out to destroy society as you know it. They are really strict on drivers in my area. The crappy drivers are usually working for not so good companies such as swift. They really don't need camras in the trucks as they must keep a detailed/up to date driving log and are in contact with their employers at a moments notice. The trucks have trackers on them, so if they go off route they won't be fooling anyone.

That's true, but why should you assume that an accident involving a big rig is automatically the trucker's fault? I can't tell you how many times I watched a car cut in front of a tanker and jump on the brakes. They forget that their 3000 pound car stop a whole heck of a lot more quickly than the 80000 pound rig they just cut off. One of the other answers talked about how many accidents involving trucks are caused by cars. To be honest, I am surprised it is that low of a number.

Truck drivers in general should not be who you are afraid of. Any drivers that use a cell phone while driving, or other driver distraction things (eating, putting on makeup, shaving, etc) are the people you need to worry about.
