What safety features do you like or not about 2006/7 Mazda new cars? (esp. if you've had an accident w/one)?

Question:
I'm looking to buy a new Mazda 3, 6 or the new CX-7. I want to save money, and was going for the 3 since I liked the test drive so much but was worried once I saw the poor side impact ratings at safercar.gov of the Mazda3. The CX-7 is the safest of the bunch w/ 5-star front and side ratings & the Mazda 6 lis somewhere in between safety of the 3 and CX-7..

I want others opinions on this subject....Do you think school buses should have seat belts?

I am interested to know if you think the extra safety is significant enough to warrant the price differences in these models. The only other car I was considering was the Dodge Caliber which has great safety ratings but the 2.4L is not avail where I am so I won't go with that.
