Elderly drivers!!?

Question:
now i not being nasty but shouldnt the over 75s retake the whole driving test to be able to continue to drive. instead of a doctor saying its ok after just a medical examination. iis just some do not seem safe to be on the road in a batricar let alone a proper car.all beit if they pass the test and is fine then good luck to them... i mean drunk drivers and people who speed or even on mobile phones now if licenses are taken away then cant the over 75s also retake tests, ive had many pull out with out looking, and seen a few tht can barely see over the steering wheel!!!

Repo mailed me a beeper, how does it work?

well seeing as I have had my car written off today by an elderly driver, I think some so of test is very much in order, once I had calmed down the thought did cross my mind that if he couldn't see a shiny red car coming towards him, what hope of seeing a child on a bike? doesn't bear thinking about.

I think all drivers should know how to read and write. It would help if they weren't allowed to drive until they reached the age of 35.

Agreed. I mean it's a shame, but if you can't drive correctly anymore or have trouble than a retest wouldn't hurt.

How do I pick up a hitch-hiker on a bicycle?

I'd say 70! My fiance's mother is 74 but she's been driving terribly for a few years now. The other day, she was driving on the wrong side of the road...I wasn't with her but her grandson was there to let her know her error. She's ran stop signs too...it's awful because no one can tell her that her driving can cause an accident without her arguing about it.

***CAN someone please help me with TRUCK TIRE advice??***?

I believe that drivers over the age of 70 should be required to take a road test and written exam every six months.

Does anyone think I have gone mad?

The trouble with you is that just because one elderly driver has spoilt your day you attack all. I presume that you are in the flush of youth, no doubt your attitude will change as you get older and your driving technique will change also. There are a few who have never been good drivers ans some who have always been down right dangerous but to tar all with the same brush then may be we should put the driving age up to 30 to clear all the boy racers out of the system also.

After signal on, right before I start change lane, i found one car in my blind spot?

I agree that they should be able to drive precisely. However true they could hurt someone, However in there defense most elderly their children move out of state,Have no time for them, bad parent child relationship, no friends, or no friends that can drive any better, to old to walk,to old to walk to a bus stop, and to expensive to catch a cab. It does get unsafe out there sometimes but if the elderly have run out of options for other transportation and no one will help them, they get behind the wheel because sometimes they have to. Also let's be honest here we all might be good driver's but were not perfect driver's Example: Ive seen an 22 year old run into a gas pump and she stated to the store owner oh well I have license but no insurance your problem.. If I were you I'd be more worried aboout those without insurance because than your hurt and left high & dry. At least the elderly are more opt to have insuarance coverage. That's all right we will all be old someday & we will see the struggles of everday life through their eyes soon enough 24 Yr old ...

I agree with you 100%. I think anyone who is not a safe driver should be taken off the road!

Is having bad struts dangerous?

yes not just elderly but everyone should have to resit their test every 5yrs and it should be much more strict. I have just been in a head on collision 5wks ago and received serious injuries it was two 18yr olds driving without a licence or insurance they paid the ultimate price ---- they were killed instantly! what a way to go, "shocking" they almost killed us too

Do I have a chance of getting my car fixed by the person who hit me?

I feel there are too many drivers on the road who are dangerous. Elderly drivers are just one of them. HGV's & PVC's are tested reguarly after 50 years old to make sure they are fit and able to drive so why not all drivers. I think all drivers should be re-assessed every 15 years simply because many things change over time. How many times have you been stuck behind an elderly driver doing 30 in a 60mph zone? Their reason is they are going fast enough, prehaps 40 years ago when the cars were not as good they had a point but with technology improving all the time people need to learn new technequies to feel safe on todays roads.

Is it illegal to do a u-turn on a main road in the UK?

I think any senior over the age of 75 should be subjected to a rigorous test to see wheather or not they are able to keep their drivers licenses, some oldsters make good driversBUT there are people who are mentally impared (alzheimers disease) should not be given the right to drive. M y 93 year old father falls into this subject, hes always confused and when in the car,has no idea of where on earth he is!! Its pure tourture to be his passenger,he speeds like mario andretti and people who slow down to yield for someone else gets my father all riled up,He just will not give in,its either his way or the highway. rubberstampr

Who are the worst drivers in America?

I think everyone should be tested every 5 years. Sure there are elderly people who shouldn't be on the road. There are also many others that shouldn't be on the road and age isn't a factor with them. I think manditory testing would keep us all sharp and weed out those that are going to cause accidents.

Brisbane bus lines accident 16 february 2007?

OK they can be a pain in the @rse, but so can young drivers, and for sure when one of them has a mad moment it make headline news But i do think a lot of them are fine if not a little slow. I don't think you can automatically insist on a re test just because they are over 75, unless they are involved in an accident which is proved to be their fault.
