Why do Theives use toothpaste on Car Locks.?

Question:
I recently had my car broken into. The drivers window was smashed but the car was deadlocked so they didn't get in. The strangest thing as there was toothpaste all over the door handle and on the inside door lock (the pull up tab thingy). Does anyone know why theives do this? It's the first time I've ever seen this.

They put toothpaste onto their fingers and hands When the past dries it fills in the small cracks between the circular lines of the fingers that we call "finger prints" Some times the bad boys dont leave the paste on their fingers long enough for the past to properly dry below the surface so when they break into something the crust of the past breaks open exposing the wet past and still being wet attaches its self to any object touched May I add if you found toothpaste on your car the bad boys were not very good at their hobby
