Without specialist training or first aid knowledge .. common sense must kick in! What needed to be done here was to ascertain who was most seriously injured for priority treatment, reassure the injured ( very important ), stop the scene from getting worse, i.e. park your vehicle with 4 ways on to prevent further damage, stay with the injured to prevent them moving ( do not remove crash helmets in case of a neck injury ), make sure someone is getting the emergency services, collect witnesses if necessary ( the police will be very grateful ), ascertain that the bikes are imobilised and no spillage of petrol ( otherwise contact the fire service ). No one can do everything right in these circumstances, after all it is a trauma for everyone. Its always useful to carry a blanket to cover an injured person as well.Michael says it best I think.
