Winter tire size question?

Question:
I need winter tires... VERY SOON! I presently have summer tires sized 225 45 18, and the tire guys are telling me 215 55 17 will fit (on new 17 inch rims of course) and that this is acceptable.
I have always bought the same size tire for all former cars I have had all the time, and this makes me nervous...

Car Seat That Reclines?

As long as wheel size is the same (total diameter) is it okay? What about width?? The car these are going on is an RX8, rear wheel drive with traction control and a limited slip differential. No tire pressure sensor. The dealer screams NO to getting a different size (anywhere from $1000-2000 more.. which they tell me they have to sell/.install... lol) and so does the manual... and I dont know what to do.

Should tire pressure for WINTER tires be different than for all-season tires?

Your experience (with any car going with different size rims/tires) and/or your help please? Thanks!

Has there been accidents lately in Elkgrove, CA?

The vehicle was designed to have 225mm wide tires with a 45 profile on an 18` rim. It is one of the more expensive tire sizes found on vehicles with stiffer suspensions such as your Mazda and BMW`s. It is my opinion - done it once too - the change to a "slimmer" tire with a fatter profile will cost you road holding/ and handling characteristics. I have never done it again. Stick to the factory specs or go better, never downgrade on vital part such as tires to save money, it might cost you money in the long run. Specially with snow and ice and all the things "nice" that goes with it.

Hey there just tell your tire dealer that you want to put on the same size tires you have now the 225-55-18 your wanting to use the rims you already have right your not looking for winter rims all you want is winter tires right to be installed on your rims you have now an 18 in tire can be costly but it all depends on what you want for your tires if its an 18 inch rim you have pretty much any 18 inch tire should fit as long as it is say for exp (225-75-18 ) that will be a good choice for a tire size for your rims good luck i hope this info was helpfull

Where can I go to get help installing a child safety seat?

As long as the tire and rim in ? is the same height....it won't mater if it's a 17 or 18. The width should try and be close to the same, so you have equal foot-print. But, here is the problem, changing the tire and rim size, void's the warrenty....the dealer can't change size ...other wise they will be liable, if for some stupid reasion, you have a wreck....your lawyers will have a feild day. Thanks to all the sue-happy people in the world...this is what has happened.

Are you a tail-gator?

you may want to test fit a 17 inch rim first to make sure you dont have a problem with clearance on the brake calipers.you can usually go one size smaller rim with a taller tire and not mess up your abs /traction control .this all works off the wheel speed sensors and some cars dont catch the change on a radical tire size difference
