Question:
I'm car shopping, and I'm finding a few sedans that I like for their prices, mileage and the fact that I need a new car by Friday (car accident last Wednesday -- insurance is paying for most of it, but I've only got a rental until friday)
Though, the only problem I have with a few of these cars is that they don't have a center seatbelt (and I would want a shoulder strap for it too).
What will it take to protect pedestrians who obey the regulations?
Is there anyway I could get one (a lap-shoulder seatbelt)installed for the middle seat? Or should I just look for another car? If I can, any idea how much that would be?
Answers:
What is the cause of most pedestrian injuries and fatalities?
If the manufacturer did not include a seatbelt in the middle, then the vehicle was not designed to have a passenger in the middle. While you can certainly add a seatbelt, the safety of the new belt would be in question, as the vehicle was not designed to have a passenger in the middle. If you need a five passenger vehicle, please, for safety's sake, buy one that was designed for five passengers.Who is at fault in this car accident?
No you can't get in installed. Cars must adhere to very strict safety guidelines when it comes to belts and seats, etc. If the car does not have a center belt, it means that it was not designed for one and would not be safe with one.Why are car companies allowed to make cars that can go faster than the speed limit?
