On a stick shift, don't "coast " in neutral. With automatic, the tranny can't use the engine with throttle 'off' to slow vehicle, so you must use brakes. (not "breaks"). Over-heating the brakes is not a problem in the city, but long or steep grades on freeway are a problem if you keep brakes on constantly. Just use brakes on/off with tranny in same gear you would use to climb grade.Brake "fade" occurs when they're overheated and brake pedal feel seems 'greasy' and less effective.
Disc brakes have fewer problems in this; OK for front end, but remember that the rear brakes are usually drum brakes, the old-style kind that are subject to overheating due to enclosed design.
Go blow the examiner's socks off with your answers.
Never ever put the transmission in neutral(or turn off the motor). As far as brake use, apply brakes to slow down to 5 MPH under your max safe speed then release, repeat process when you reach your max safe speed until you reach the bottom of the hill.
