What is the benifit, if any, of having a low compression ratio (below 9)?

Question:

Answers:

Will they ever have virtual driving tests?

A higher compression ratio engine will require a higher octane gasoline (more expensive) the lower compression engine will be able to run a lower octane gasoline (cheaper). If you run a lower octane gas in a high compression engine you will have problems with spark knock (or detonation) which will over time erode the piston(s) surface and ultimately wear a hole though the pistons(s). For the most part unless you are using the auto in a racing endeavor the lower compression ratios will be cheaper to run and longer lived.
