My guess is so that someone who is blind can have someone else drive them and then.. maybe get out of the car and do it?They don't make ATMs specific to drive-ups, they are multi-purpose. It could either end up in a drive-up, or one at a branch, who knows.

Because a blind person might be in the car and need money--why not, you can use them too if you care to learn how to do it. same as lip reading, suppose it was raining out and you fogged up your glasses and were at the drive thru. You could push the buttons and not make the person behind you wait, while your cleaning your glasses. See its all how you look at it.

The answer is simple: The Americans With Disabilities Act, signed into law in 1990, requires reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities in public places. The law does not make exceptions for drive-up ATMs.
