UK drivers. How so speed cameras work?

Question:
Like how do they measure the speed? Is it anything to do with the strips on the floor and can they flash you if you're travelling towards them?

Answers:

What are some of the things people do to ensure they pass their driving tests?

I suspect we call them photo radar over here. The camera contains both a radar or laser speed gun and a camera. When you are travelling above the threshold speed (the speed limit if there is zero tolerance) the camera will take your picture and record the speed, date, time , location and direction you are travelling. You then get your ticket in the mail, hopefully with a copy of your picture. So remember to smile and slow down.
