Licenced taxi drivers should have more protection from the police?

Question:
We need them to be able to go out and not loose our licence. They put up with violence, abuse and threats but are still treated as scum. They do not have police protection as do other professions, Why

Answers:

Have you used or heard of 'puncture proof' for tyres?

Cos most of them dont take speed limits on. But apart from that, if they are attacked they should be taken seriously. No-one deserves to be abused because of their job.

How many do you have to score on the hazard perception test to pass?

Everyone is entitled to the protection of the police when they are verbally or physically threatened or where there is likely to be a breach of the peace. And they are not treated as scum. it is just that they have to transport all sections of the community and you can guarantee that you will find scum in there somewhere. I cannot imagine any profession that has unique and dedicated protection by the police. But what taxi drivers need is a code of practice here . cameras in all cars so that all fares are on film, working practices where certain areas are no go, the right of the driver to have the absolute legal right to refuse anyone and any destination and the right to consider non payment of a fare as theft. But, safety must start at home so perhaps better training would help all drivers, provided and made mandatory from each local authority and the police. You have to look after yourself in this world . yes, it is full of animals and we must be taught to recognise them. Also, think how this extends to all PSV drivers, train guards, flight crew, dustmen .. in fact any lone worker or service provider can be at risk. Go into any hospital A&E department and you will see the warning notices regarding undue threats or violence against the nursing staff .. I think you are a little blinkered when you speak solely of taxi drivers, licenced or otherwise.

Two part survey, is Big Brother good for us on the road?

Yes they should have support from the police against violence etc But they are not entitled to special treatment if they break the law when driving

Help on my Road Test?

I know it's like that taxi driver in London (I think) that got shot.
