Driving on ice?

Question:
I'm in the middle of that nice storm going over Long Island right now, and my driveway and road is covered in a layer of ice. I'm going to have to leave tomorrow, and while I'm not concerned about my driveway, my road doesn't doesn't get plowed, and I'm inbetween two huge hills. What's the safest way to get out? Any tips?

Nervous Driver...?

Stay home or walk and use taxi/bus. It is not a proper environment and weather to start learning ice driving. Your chances of getting into an accident are extremly high. When you get some time and money, attend advanced driving school.

Is your trip tomorrow worth wrecking your car car and injuring yourself? From the sounds of it, that is likely to happen.
Most accidents in weather like this (I'm experiencing the same thing here in northern NJ) are due to driver mistakes. It would be a mistake for you to attempt to drive tomorrow in these conditions unless it is for an extreme emergency.

I'd stay put or use public transportation if its available to you or even a taxi but only if those two methods are safe. Driving on Ice is risky even for skilled drivers due to loss of traction.Losing control of the car due to the car skidding on ice can have if lucky to survive it very grave consequences as far as getting hurt and seriously damaging the car. I'd stay safe by a warm fire and wait until the ice is gone before I'd venture out. Stepped on ice once thinking it was only water and in just a split second my legs were out from under me and I hurt for weeks.Theres just no way i'd drive on ice.
