A "normal" i.e manual licence covers you to drive either manual or auto, no problem.
A licence restricted to "automatic" entitles you only to drive those cars where no driver input is required in normal driving, i.e full auto. DSG bearboxes and semi-autos where you still change gear but without the clutch are not considered automatic, according to DVLA.
