90% of drivers on motorways travel safely at 80-90 mph but these are criminals (or £ symbols) in the government's minds.
The death numbers have not gone down since the cameras were put in but the money has rolled in.This is why they are making the detectors illegal...you would not get fined.
The vast majority of drivers who break the limit(I don't mean whizz-kids who do wheelies and 60 mph through villages) don't want to hurt anyone or damage their cars so are careful.Just because they go over a stupidly low limit shouldn't make them criminals.They get fined, have points on their licences and their premiums go up. Illegal drivers with no tax/insurance get off scott free.

Of course camera detectors are illegal because if a driver comes up to a camera the detector alerts them and they simply slow down, then speed back up again. Its one less driver to exploit and take money from.

Except in very cirtical areas and near schools, I fail to see what contribution speed-cameras make to safety on the roads, because if they have to be sighted on roads where at least three deaths have occured, it is only a statistical game, and will eventually lead to the total surveillance of every vehicle, every minute of the day, and the total control of the police-state we are rapidly becoming under this weak and ineffective government.
