Toyotas are teriffic vehicles, but the Rav-4 isn't really built for heavy duty towing. Heed what the dealer says about weight and distance. If you decide to go ahead with some towing, U-Haul dealers do a nice job installing hitches, but be careful because it can be really hard on your transmission. If it's a newer vehicle and still has plenty of value, you might want to consider renting a larger U-Haul truck for your stuff and put a one of the car dollies behind to pull the Rav-4 and protect it from damage.
I believe since I had a Rav4L that this is covered in the owners manual or call your Toyota dealer and they will give you the actual specs on the vehicle

According to Toyota, 4 cyl RAV4s are good for 1,500 lbs as the dealer says. 6 cyl RAV4s are good for 2,000 lbs and 6 cyl with the tow prep package are good for 3,500 lbs. They don't specify any distance limits.More Questions & Answers ...
