How can i make my turn signals flash fast?

You always select the right gear for the speed and the power required. You do not need to go to "other gears" before going to the one you want. This is a left over from old days before every gear had synchronizers.

In what circumstances should a minimum speed limit be introduced and why?

For your first question, I'd remain on the second gear.
For your second question, I'd remain on the second gear and ONLY shift to first if I had to come to complete stop.

I was broad sided by a car and want to know how fast the car was going when it hit me.?

For most cars, the first gear is really needed to get the car to move from complete stop. Once it moves a little, you can shift up to second and remain there until you are going fast enough to shift UP.

Is it safe to leave the car running in the garage if the door is open?

yea, most manual transmissions will grind if you try to shift into first while going above 20 mph.

I understand exactly what you're dealing with. People gave you good answers to your questions. I'll just add that after driving a stick shift for a couple years I got an automatic, and now that's all I'll ever drive. Stick shifts can be a real hassle.

their right. transmissions will tell you which gear to go into next depending on your speed. the correct gear to use is the one that goes into gear easily. if you have to use more force than usual, its not supposed to be. as you get to know the car more you will know what to do. shifting into first gear from a higher gear for most cars is not good. the transmission is not supposed to do that. just dont shift from 2nd to 1st. downshifting is not a good idea in the first place unless you know you are going to fry your brakes (going down a big hill or mountain pass). a brake job is cheaper than putting the wear and tear on your vehicle by downshifting. downshifting also uses a lot more gas.

Is having your permit a more of a threat while on the road?

I would stay in 2nd gear and be ready to brake. If and when you come to a full and complete stop, you may hold in neutral until traffic moves. It is possible to downshift to first gear at that speed, but since 1st is normally such a low gear, there is little to no advantage to doing so. Your vehicle SHOULD have enough torque and power to provide additonal inertia to gain roadspeed in second gear. In this case, again, I would simply let the car drive itself in regard to allowing the idle speed provide enough power for safe and controlled driving.

What are effects of speeding and underage driving?

Downshifting is advisable when you MUST overtake and pass someone in a non-limited access highway setting... ie: two lane back road. While driving on the highway, you can opt to downshift and pass, but your car again should have enough power to do so while in the proper gear for the roadspeed and conditions.

Hope this helps again.

Should you turn off your cell phone at the gas pump?

yeah - don't downshift - it will only grind or make you lurch forward (then you'd make everybody laugh...been there done that! lol) Just take the vehicle out of 2nd gear and coast up to traffic..if you get below 10mph - you can go back into 1st gear to get going again.

Who got a cellphone ban while driving in their city?

I ALWAYS just take it out of gear - besides - then you're not burning gas! (at least - not as much as when the gas pedal is pushed down! :) )
