Some people get on my damn nerves. At the risk of death or serious injury to others and themselves, people think nothing of being distracted visually, acoustically, and mentally because of cell phone conversations while driving.

You think I'm alone on this one? Think again, next a statewide ban (California) goes into effect for people that talk on cell phones while driving. Violators will be fined heavily if caught by highway patrol. I hope it's a lucrative implement of prosecution for them.

Driving a phone booth? Dangerous.I don't know what could be so important that people risk their own lives and the lives of others to make a call. It really ISN'T all that hard to pull over and be safe if you MUST make a call.

I do it all the time and i have never been in one accident. It's not the act of using the phone that makes these people suck at driving, its just the plain fact that they suck at driving, period. You see people doing stupid **** while driving all the time, and not all of them are talking on a cell phone. Granted it may make it worse, but hey, what are you gonna do?Would you feel better if they were using a bluetooth headset? Do you think its really any different than if they were to have a passenger in the seat next to them, and having a conversation with them? It wouldn't be, but then you wouldn't have anything to complain about so what's the fun in that.

I can't think of any thing so important that you have to try to concentrate on 2 things at the same time. The only time you should be on the phone while driving is to call 911 for an emergency, or to report someone driving erratically. Pull off the road and talk all you want. Being involved in accident using the excuse you were on the phone is way too lame, and I doubt if the law would protect you on this one. I wonder that myself people are always on there phone. Well, I choose not to multi-task while driving. My fiance knows that I cannot even be talked to while driving, because I am concentrating on driving. If my phone rings, I have voicemail. Then I can check caller ID at the next stoplight. Did you know that many Europeans could not even understand why you would need cup-holders in your vehicle? To them and me, a car is used for transportation, not lunch. The only time I have eaten in my truck, was while I was sitting on the side of the road in a rest area. Of course maybe that is why I have been driving for 16 years and have never been cited for anything. I once used my cell while driving, but that was to call the cops on a suspected drunk. I have NO pity for a drunk driver. I think they should all be arrested and punished to the full extent of the law. There is NO excuse to drive drunk. The only reason I answer a call while driving is if it's work calling. This question should also mention people trying to shop for groceries in a supermarket or attempting to conduct financial transactions while on the phone. Where have our manners gone? It's disgusting.

However, I do not change lanes while talking on my phone while expressway driving. I take the slow lane and stay there. If I have to go through an interchange, I tell the person I am speaking with to hold and I lay the phone down or use hands free.

Are the calls all that important? I am being honest here so I would have to say no, not really. It's simply that many people spend hours and hours behind the wheel and alot can be accomplished during that time if done responsibly. For some, it's beyond thier capability. Good grief, I know some people who shouldn't chew gum and drive at the same time.

If you think cell phone usage while a vehicle is moving should be banned entirely; What about the use of a CB radio? What about adjusting your radio? What about pressing On-Star or adjusting your GPS? How about eating while driving? Shaving? Make-up? What about passengers?

You see it's not just cell-phones that are the problem, there are dozens of possible distractions while driving. What people need to do is always remember that their first responsibility is to the road when the vehicle is moving. If you have to take your eyes off the road for any reason that takes more than a second, you're placing yourself and other drivers at risk.
I've seen the drivers you talk about. I have gone to great effort not to be one, but many may lump me into the group. The ones who weave in and out of thier lane, they do not use turn signals, their speed is erractic and when you pass the person, sure enough, there's a cell phone at thier ear. All I can say is thanks for ruining it for the rest of us!
