Accident in Rental Cars?

My friend was involved in an auto accident on the freeway today. He was in a rental car which he rented for the week.He did not get the ldw from the rental place, because his credit card offered it.Another car tried to pass in front of him, thus forcing him over to the side on the grass on the side of the freeway. There was a police report made by the highway patrol, and there was no damage to the car. Should he report it to the rental company or just let it go?

Since there was a police report, it would be in his best interest to report it to the company. There may not have been obvious damage, but maybe something happened under the car.
